Hi All,

This should be on the news wires soon, but I just spoke with Aly and she had just come from signing for an upcoming Pilot. She was really excited and thinks it will be a lot of fun.

Name: How I Met Your Mother. It is a CBS pilot, and will tape live, though some of it will be pretaped due to the nature of the show.

I have more details about it, but I am sure there will be more on the entertainment news wires soon.

I also asked her for an address where fan mail, birthday cards etc. could be sent and she said it would really help if you send any fan mail to her in care of CBS, How I Met Your Mother. I don't know the exact address, but I am sure someone here can run it down.

She said it would be really good, because CBS keeps track of any fan mail that comes in and it is a good way to gauge interest in the shows as well as in the actors they have contracted with.

So, that's it for right now. Just wanted to alert you all so you can start watching for more info on this. And for those who want to send her mail, you now have a good place for it to go.

I just looked it up and this is what i got

"How I Met Your Mother," an ensemble comedy from the point of view of a man looking back on his single life from 20 years in the future. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas ("American Dad," "Method & Red") are writing and exec producing the 20th Century Fox TV pilot.
Josh Radnor is in it

Sounds interesting wonder what she would play 8)

I've met him... If he/her really was Aly, she does the most incredible impersonation of an older man with a keen interest in photography, beer drinking and poker I have ever seen...

And a big WooHoo for Aly. Let's hope this one turns out to be a winner. :P If Aly chose it, it must be pretty damn good... Hey, I thought the word DAMN was sensored around here? :? :P

Thanks, A1f that is fabulous news! Is Aly going to be the top name in this sitcom? I have said all along that a sitcom is the best vehicle for her talents, not that she couldn't do a great job in film roles, too. I will go check and see if tickets are available yet for the pilot taping. :D 8)

Oh, and Spike_Jr, A1f has been previously positively identified as the redoubtable Albert Hannigan, Alyson's father. :D

She tried to explain the idea and how it would be done, but it is still in casting and is only a pilot, so of course many changes may come about by the time it actually tapes. Here is what I got from her so far: There are 3 lifelong friends that are now old and reflecting back on their life. Alyson will play the fiance or girlfriend of one of these friends, the main one I believe.

If I understood her correctly, most of the show will take place in 2005, and the use of the old man telling about his past will be mainly done with some narration, maybe a short scene at the beginning before flashing back...but the show will mostly take place in 2005 when the 3 friends were all much younger.

I picture it something like the movie "Little Big Man" with Dustin Hoffman if any of you remember that movie. Dustin was the old man telling about his life, and most of the movie flashed back to his younger years. That's the best I can do to explain it.

All the networks are trying to find an approach to comedy shows that will get back viewers (and advertisers $) since no one has had a real hit in years and it has them concerned. Apparently, the reality shows aren't making them the money they need, and if they don't find something that works they are going to go broke. DUH no news flash there! :?

The two writers for this pilot are actually telling their own real life story, more or less and she really likes the writing so far...so let's hope for something good.

She said also that she feels like she's on vacation now that she has signed, since she has been reading scripts everyday and having meetings etc. (I threw this in for those who might think she hasn't been receiving any offers these past few months.)

TVtickets.com does not have anything on a taping yet. Did Aly give you any idea when the pilot might be taped, A1f? I hope it is at a time when I can go to L.A. 8)

Thanks for the additional details. It sounds like Aly will be the female lead, but not be top-billed. Thanks also for the suggestion on where to send fanmail. A big blitz for Aly's birthday might help CBS decide to schedule this show. :D

Great News

Thanks also A1F for asking about the fan mail. Now all we need it the actual addy. How can find this out for us? Is it in LA?

It wouls be good to send a B'Day card next week or two, as it's coming from OS.

:D

It sounds a bit like an old movie called Heaven Can Wait, (not the Warren Beatty one), only without the celestial element.

It has the potential to be very funny but bittersweet too - which would suit Aly down to the ground I'm sure! 8)

This might be an address that works, but I'll see if I can get something more accurate.

Show Name
c/o CBS Studio Center
4024 Radford Avenue
Studio City, CA 91604

This may only be for already airing CBS shows.

Here is something more I found:

Welcome to the How I Met Your Mother guide at TV Tome.

"How I Met Your Mother," an ensemble comedy from the point of view of a man looking back on his single life from 20 years in the future. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas ("American Dad," "Method & Red") are writing and exec producing the 20th Century Fox TV pilot.

- Josh Radnor has landed the lead in CBS' comedy "How I Met Your Mother," a look back on a family man's life as a single man, and the events that led to his meeting his wife.

Additionally, CBS has ordered "Everything I Know About Men" and "How I Met Your Mother," both of which deal with the single life. "Everything," an adaptation of the BBC comedy "According to Bex," is about a single woman and the men in her life. "Bex" creator Fred Barron will write and executive produce the pilot.

"How I Met Your Mother" centers on a middle-aged man reflecting on his dating exploits 20 years prior. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas ("American Dad," "Method & Red") are writing and exec producing the 20th Century Fox TV pilot.

That's really STUNNING, MONUMENTAL news. Not the Aly getting another pilot although that's GREAT. It's that the networks (CBS at least) are figuring out that reality shows are NOT the answer.

It's nice to see another of the majors showing an interest in Aly and offering her some QUALITY work. And it's nice that she's excited about it. Now the important thing is that the network doesn't mess around and screw it up. If I'm getting upset with all the decision making going on with her opportunities I can only begin to imagine how SHE feels about it.

Being the greedy Aly hungry fan I am I would have preferred her headlining an hour show. Being that she's the one actually doing the work I can understand her preference. As long as she's happy working I'll be happy watching.

The pilot is scheduled to be taped Thursday, April 7. Tickets are not yet available. The lead actor is Josh Radnor, who has one TV credit, the shortlived ABC series about the Supreme Court called The Court. He has done some stage work, including replacing Jason Biggs in the lead role of the Broadway version of The Graduate in the summer of 2002.
