What is The Palace?
The Palace is software that runs on Macintosh and Windows OS computers. The software allows you to connect to "palaces", or chat rooms that users have set up for people to enter and talk with one another.

Where do I download Palace?
You can download the Palace software from http://practice.chatserve.com/. Install it on your computer and run it. It's very easy!

What and where is the AHAS Palace?
Our Palace is called AlyCHAT. Once you run Palace, Connect to this address... 68.76.161.219 and BOOM, you're in AlyCHAT!

Is Palace software easy to use?
In some ways, yes. In some ways, no. It's very easy to get in a Palace chatroom and start talking. It's even pretty easy to "wear" avatars that are available. It becomes a little more difficult to create your own avatars and do other things that can push the Palace envelope.

We suggest you download your Palace software sometime over the next few days and visit AlyCHAT to get your feet wet. This week will be a great opportunity to practice!

Here are some instructional sites if you want to get started early!

Palace User Manuals http://www.thepalace.com/assets/userguides/index.html

Palace FAQs http://www.thepalace.com/assets/faqs.html

Wait a minute!? Do I have to pay to use this software!?
No! When the Palace software first came out, you had to pay to use it. But when the company that wrote the software went out of business, they made using the software free!

Go here to get your free registration number for the Palace!

I have a slow (dialup) connection! Can I join the party?
Absolutely! The Palace software was written back in the late '90's, when 28.8 modems were the norm. Palace software was designed to work with slow modem speeds, so you should have no problems whatsoever!

I will be there for both...... The first one is early for me, especially after an xmas party the night before, but I will survive, as historically, the first party is always the bigger one.

Oh AHAS, you should mention your time stated for Australia is EST (i.e. for the Eastern side of Australia). We have quite a few time zones here, with Perth (in WA) being 4 hours behind us.

To make things worse, Queenland (which is on the Eastern seaboard) does not follow Day Light Savings, so they are an hour behind the rest of us.... Oh hell, just state GMT and let us work it out for ourselves.....

Out Saturday night. Sunday morn is conceivable, though I'm not promising anything!

How many people did we have at the second party? More than during the first one?
